Mayors and councillors from across New Brunswick are gathering for the first time since Monday’s election at the Union of the Municipalities of New Brunswick’s 2018 Annual Conference on September 28-30 in Fredericton.
“New Brunswick’s municipalities are facing major challenges, from climate change to changing demographics,” said UMNB President Bev Gaston. “And just like the next government, we know the only way we’ll succeed is by working together.”
“UMNB is proud to be the municipal association that welcomes all municipalities: all sizes and both languages. We know finding solutions to our province’s challenges means bringing everyone to the table. We’re eager to get to work, and that’s what we’re here to do this weekend.”
Conference highlights include:
- Official opening on Friday September 28 at 6 PM, with remarks from Minister Andrew Harvey, Green Party Leader David Coon, and Fredericton West-Hanwell MLA Dominic Cardy.
- Panel discussion on the 2018 Floods and the “new normal” of extreme weather events with EMO Director Greg MacCallum, NB Power VP Lori Clark, and Climate Change Secretariat ED Jeff Hoyt on Saturday, September 29 at 12:30 PM
- Eilish Cleary moderating a discussion on doctor recruitment with Horizon CEO Karen McGrath, Vitalité VP Dr. France Desrosiers, and Family Medicine New BrunswickDirector Andrew MacLean onSaturday, September 29 at 1:30 PM
UMNB’s 24th Annual Conference will be held September 28-30 2018 at the Crowne Plaza at 659 Queen St, Fredericton NB. The conference will welcome over 200 delegates, including mayors and councillors from across the province. Additional guests include political leaders, provincial and federal representatives, and organizations with an interest in local issues.
The Union of the Municipalities of New Brunswick is a bilingual association of municipalities of all sizes – including cities, towns, villages, and rural communities across the province. UMNB works to ensure the priorities of municipalities and their residents are heard.
