#Translation required. UMNB is working in collaboration with L’association Acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick (L’AAAPNB), and ArtsLinkNB to support municipal capacity bulding to develop Arts and Culture policies. The first phase of the Pilot Project was hosted by the Town of Salisbury, and focused on adapting the cultural policy formation process developed for use in Acadian communities to an anglophone context.
In March 2026, the Town of Salisbury officially launched its first Arts and Culture Policy, supported by stakeholders and municipal officials. The Salisbury Community Committee included elected officials, municipal staff, educators, artists, as well as representatives from both the seniors and newcomers’ communities. The UMNB recognizes that cultural policies are the backbone of well-being, community inclusion and positive growth for any municipality, and continues to advocate to the provincial government for more resources to expand municipal cultural planning.
Next steps in the project include updating a policy formation guide funded by the Department of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture, which will be made available to communities who wish to undertake this work.
