Communications Manager-Full Time
The Union of the Municipalities of New Brunswick (UMNB) is a bilingual association of sixty local governments of all sizes, representing over eighty five percent of New Brunswick’s population. We are a member-driven organization that is the voice and authority of municipalities in New Brunswick; our mission is to engage and collaborate with all New Brunswick municipalities to build vibrant and sustainable communities via advocacy and the provision of valuable services for members.
UMNB is seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to advance the organization’s strategic objectives through the development and execution of effective communications.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will work collaboratively with the team to advance the priorities set by the board of directors and members, including:
- Developing and managing communication plans for the organization.
- Support and execute public facing communications that advance the advocacy activities of the UMNB.
- Preparing effective materials and messaging
- Leading and developing campaigns to further advocacy priorities
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communications:
- Develop and execute strategic communications plans and policies to achieve the goals of UMNB.
- Be the point of contact for media relations, prepare briefings and coordinate interviews, identify proactive media opportunities, and evaluate coverage.
- Develop collateral, prepare internal and external messaging, news releases, press kits, and other communications materials.
- Proactively monitor media and government information sources to ensure relevant information is flagged to UMNB.
- Work in collaboration with the Policy and Research Officer to prepare policy briefs, fact sheets, correspondence, and other collateral for government officials and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain contacts with media.
- Work collaboratively with association partners and members to advance strategic priorities.
- Monitor activities pending or taken by decisionmakers affecting UMNB, including legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives.
- Participate in calls/conferences related to government relations.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Strong writing and editing skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop accurate, engaging, stylistically sound content consistent with the organization’s brand and messaging.
- Demonstrated success in advocacy and public relations relations.
- Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office programs, Adobe, G-Suite, and Canva.
- Problem solver, ability to provide leadership on complex files.
- The ability to translate complex issues into a level appropriate for the general population and policymakers.
- Experience analyzing and reporting on communications data, evaluating impact, and suggesting ways to adjust course to improve results.
- Attention to detail, strong follow-through.
- Time management: ability to remain organized and responsive to multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
- Critical and creative thinking skills, sound judgement.
- Experience recording, producing and editing video would be an asset.
- Experience working with member-based organizations is an asset.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years professional experience in communications and advocacy.
- Bilingual, with written and spoken competence in English and French are required.
- Post-secondary education in a discipline relevant to communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

UMNB offers a competitive compensation package that includes health and dental benefits, RRSP matching, a flexible work environment and a fun team. The salary range for this position is $70,000-75,000
