UMNB had a conference call today with government to discuss municipal elections and the Coronavirus pandemic, including the possibility of delaying the election.
Government is considering multiple factors including risks to the public and election workers; potential impact on municipal administration and their important role in emergency response; and fairness to candidates & voters. Any decisions will be based on advice from health officials.
Decisions will be made as soon as possible; UMNB recommended this be before nominations open on 21 Mar 2020. In the meantime, we recommend that candidates delay campaign purchases.
