Fredericton, NB – The Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick (UMNB) would like to extend a warm welcome to the newly elected Premier of New Brunswick, Susan Holt, incoming Members of the Legislative Assembly representatives, and Cabinet Members.
Ensuring alignment of municipal and provincial priorities is more important than ever, as effective intergovernmental collaboration is required to address the unique and complex challenges in our communities, and to see all New Brunswickers thrive.
“Our membership was grateful to the Holt team for consulting with municipal leaders and staff on many local issues pertaining to housing, healthcare, fiscal reform, and more, early on in her campaign efforts. The roundtable discussions that were conducted last fall set an initial positive tone that we trust will continue under the Premier’s leadership” said UMNB President Brittany Merrifield. “We look forward to collaborating alongside the provincial government as equal partners committed to making a difference for our shared citizens.”
UMNB would also like to extend its congratulations to new Minister of Local Government and minister responsible for Service New Brunswick Aaron Kennedy on his appointment to the Executive Council.
“Minister Kennedy is no stranger to our Union. As a former Chief Administrative Officer and longtime municipal employee in Quispamsis, he has a keen understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing our member municipalities,” said President Merrifield. “We look forward to working with Minister Kennedy to achieve the goals of municipal fiscal reform and ensure our members have access to the modern fiscal tools they need to meet the challenges ahead”.
